The District Council of Pamplemousses has 18 Village Councils under its jurisdiction, being administered by two Assistant Chief Executives.

In accordance with Section 51 of the Local Government act 2011, functions devolving on village Councils are:

–          The organisation of sports, leisure and cultural activities;

–          The running of pre-primary schools and entrepreneurship courses;

–          The maintenance and improvement of libraries and computer facilities;

–          The maintenance of cremation grounds and any other public health amenities..
